Off the Mat: What Are You Grateful for?
This is our traditional week of giving thanks. So here is a quick practice for you to try, off the yoga mat.
Thanksgiving is a great time to get together, see friends and family. Laugh and talk, catch up with everyone and fill our bellies with an assortment of yummy food.
It’s also a great time to sit down with pen and pad and write down, yes WRITE, with pen in hand, what we are grateful for.
I did this the other day. I found a quiet spot, in my house; it’s the home office/yoga room. Then I closed my eyes and sat comfortably in my desk chair. I took a few moments of pranayama and used the mantra I am thankful for, I am thankful for, I am thankful for.
After a few minutes, I sat up, planted my feet on the floor and began to free write. This is what I wrote:
I am thankful for my health
I am thankful for the health of the ones I love.
I am thankful for my husband and son.
Thankful for the joy and love they give me.
Thankful for the constant reminder that I am deserving of that joy and love.
I am thankful for my mother and father
Thankful that they fed, bathed, cared for me, some are not so lucky.
Thankful for the century plus old live oak that graces the end of my street.
I am thankful for my neighborhood of Seminole Heights giving me wonderful neighbors and friends for the past 14 years.
Thankful that Mom still took me out to the movies back in the day, through my newwave-goth stage.

I am thankful for you.
What are you thankful for this week? Give yourself about 10 mins, don't edit what you write, just let it flow. Don't judge what you put down, it's free thought, so don't judge it, embrace it. Laugh, cry, give in to it and I hope you find it as fun and enlightening as I did.
Namaste
