Championship Round: Who Has the Best Customer Service in Seminole Heights?

Cast your vote in the last matchup in the competition: Milk n' Honey Tea Room vs. Sherry's Yesterdaze.

Editor's Note: As some of you have mentioned, one of these businesses is in Seminole Heights while the other is in the surrounding community. As you'll see on our About Us page, we cover businesses and issues in both areas. When a winner is announced for this contest and in the future, we promise to note these distinct segments of the Seminole Heights community.

After weeks of nail-biting competition, we’re down to the final two businesses in Seminole Heights Patch’s 2012 Readers’ Choice customer service tournament.

Who will be declared the champion? Is it The Milk n' Honey Tea Room and Gift Shop? Or, perhaps Sherry's Yesterdaze Vintage Clothing & Antiques? is your favorite? Only you can decide and here’s how:

In this final championship round, each poll vote is worth 1 point, each favorable comment on this story is worth 20 points, and each favorable directory review written during the polling period is worth 50 points. In addition, we'll award 200 bonus points for the business with the most total favorable reviews on their directory listing overall.

Each reader may vote once per day in the poll, and may leave one comment and one directory review per business. (You are welcome to leave as many comments as you would like, but for voting purposes we will count only the first comment and review you leave in favor of each business.) Any ties will be broken in overtime.

To leave a review for a business, search for the business name in the Seminole Heights Patch Directory, or click on the business name below to go straight to its directory listing:

The polls will remain open until Wednesday, April 4, at noon.

Good luck to all our competitors! And thank you to all the amazing businesses in the Seminole Heights area who have been a part of the tournament!

About this tournament: The 64 participating businesses joined Patch before the March 11 qualifying deadline and were selected based on their ratings in the Seminole Heights Patch directory. Want to join Patch? Here's how.

My Zonta Club moved our monthly meetings from Embassy Suites to Milk 'n Honey. Owner /chef Kathy Glenn offered us a choice of 2 entrees instead of one chef choice at the Suites at an even better price. Had our 1st meeting there in March ... everyone was pleased with food and service. It is definitely 5 STARS!

I gather from the comments that the Milk 'n Honey Tea Room is a delightful place - I'd suppose from the great reviews that I'll be stopping by sometime soon. That said, why is it even in the running for Best of Anything in Seminole Heights when it isn't IN Seminole Heights or, even, particularly close?

We look forward to having you visit Milk n' Honey Margaret! Actually we are in Seminole Heights. Busch Blvd is the dividing line between Seminole Heights and Forest Hills/Old Carrollwood, and we are on the South side of the road. We shop and support many of the businesses in Seminole Heights and are proud to say we are part of the community!

I don't want to disparage the Milk and Honey place as I've never had the pleasure to visit and I'm not familiar with them, but they don't seem to be located in the Seminole Heights business district!! We have an amazing group of unique and talented people running businesses here and Sherry's Yesterdaze and Sherry herself has been insrumental in bringing businesses together by forming the Business Guild of Seminole Heights (BGosh) a few years ago. I personally would recommend Yesterdazes to anyone with a love of vintage clothing, collectables and all over just fun stuff to stop by! Plan on spending at least an hour or so perusing...

Hi DC, we'd love for you to check out the Milk n' Honey! We have a great lunch menu that I'm sure you'd enjoy! We are not located in the business district, but we ARE located in Seminole Heights, albeit the outer edge. As I understand it, the contest was open to all businesses in Seminole Heights, and since we are registered on the Seminole Heights Patch, we were included in the contest. We have really enjoyed meeting some of the other business owners in person through this contest and "meeting" some of the others virtually. Because of this contest, my friends and I are now planning to visit some of the other businesses that we were not familiar with before this contest, and I hope that they and their customers will benefit from knowing that we are here too and plan to attend one of the many events that we have listed on the Patch calendar.

In addition to the regular menu items, Milk 'n Honey runs specials appropriate to the season .... Shepherd's pie, corn beef and cabbage for St. Patrick's Day; chocolate tea for Valentine's Day; strawberries scones, strawberry bread pudding for Strawberry Festival to name just a few. Get a custom made cookie arrangement for a gift or a party and purchase hand made cards from local artists. Want to spend more time with your family on a holiday ... order prepared sides and desserts from Kathy. You tell Kathy what you want and she will design a menu just for your event ... now that is what I call service!

Kathy, I have to disagree that your place actually resides in the Seminole Heights area of Tampa. I'm not sure of what Patch considers to be Seminole Heights as far as their coverage, but the Seminole Heights area according to the City of Tampa stops at the Hillsborough River which seems a bit removed from your location. I'm sure this has given you lots of great exposure for our local SH residents, but feel that Sherry's Yesterdaze should be chosen as a true neighborhood enterprise. Hope to stop in your place soon!

I have enjoyed visiting Sherry's Yesterdaze ever since I moved to Tampa in 2008. It was recommended by a close friend who frequented this boutique. She would often drag me into Yesterdaze in search of the latest retro object. Getting to know Sherry has been a real pleasure. Perhaps the most prominent quality one who knows Sherry over time would describe is how hard she works to keep her business alive and fresh. She really makes a big effort to have lots of fun and unique items in her store that people would want to own. She devotes hours and hours to making her store a treasure trove. When it comes to customers, she is happy, gracious and knowledgable. She bends over backwards to help you find that special something that is perfect for you.

Yesterdaze is an awesome place with very friendly staff who always make you feel welcome. It is hard to just stop there for a short time and I always find myself in conversation even when I just intended to stop by and leave some fliers for my shop. There is a reason that people all over the country make this place a must visit location. There is something for everyone there and if you have never been you really should check this place out.

Great comment thread here, folks. It's been exciting to watch how engaged our readers are in supporting their local businesses. Just to clarify a couple things, Seminole Heights Patch's coverage extends beyond Seminole Heights. We cover a good hunk of Central Tampa, as far north as Busch Boulevard. While the Milk n' Honey Tea Room and Gift Shop is outside of the Seminole Heights neighborhoods (it's actually in Lowry Park Central), it is just inside our coverage area and eligible for our readers' poll. Besides, even if Milk n' Honey were just outside our "technical" coverage area, we would likely include it in our poll since it's clearly so relevant to a lot of our readership. We do provide coverage outside of our coverage boundaries at times if we feel it's of interest to our readers. Click on the community listing of your choice on the right.
Check out the boundaries for Seminole Heights, South Seminole Heights, and Old Seminole Heights.
I guess it all depends upon what map you are referencing.
According to this sight, both contestants are located within the SEMINOLE HEIGHTS boundaries. To my recollection this competion was not limited to Old Seminole Heights or Business District or any particular neighborhood.

    Kathy,

I don't know where you get from the map you provide that is shows that Milk and Honey is in Seminole Heights. It shows it as being in Sulphur Springs. http://www.zipmaps.net/Florida/Hillsborough_County/Z_Sulphur_Springs.htm. This maps is all wrong because it also shows part of Seminole Heights as being Sulphur Springs. Also how can you trust a map that misspells Old Seminole Heights as Old Seminol Heights?

Sorry Michael, I don't see anything can be called the Best of Seminole Heights when it is not in Seminole Heights. If the above is your criteria, then you need to rename your contest to something else such as Best of Central Tampa or Best of Seminole Height Patch Extended Coverage Area. Its misleading otherwise.

Its why we had a such a big battle over trying to keep the the Tribune's local neighborhood edition as called Central Tampa and not South Tampa Edition, because Seminole Heights is not South Tampa. Lowry Park Central is not Seminole Heights. For those who forget - here is that story http://m.cltampa.com/tampa/fightin-words/Content?oid=2020821.

Seminole Heights has a strong identity - don't water it down. Rename the contest.

I wonder how many WOMEN who voted live north of Busch Blvd. This is about Seminole Heights and the long history it has. I was born and raised here and Busch is not part of Seminole Heights. In this round users can also post a comment for the business they prefer for 20 points, or they can write a favorable review on that business' directory listing on Patch for 50 points. I just read through all the comments and I'm rather confused! Aspen...it sounds as if you feel only people who live in Seminole Heights should be allowed to patronize the shops in Semionole Heights????? I don't live there but I'd sure like to patronize all the business I've read about in this competition. And if I'm allowed to vote...my vote goes to the Milk n' Honey Tea Room and Gift Shop. It seems the other competitor has a lot of friends who can be very negative and unfair. I am impressed with the PATCH and the job that they do in providing small business an opportunity to have some good advertising. If the PATCH doesn't think there is a problem with the Milk n' Honey Tea Room being in this competition for Good Customer Service....then I dont see why anyone else should have a problem with it. I did check out that web site I found in a couple of articles above...and it sure likes like both contestants are within the boundaries in that map. Oh and Aspen...it is not just women voting for the Milk n' Honey Tea Room. I'm a guy...and if my business needs an event catered....guess who I'll have do it.

    Michael,
Lowry Park Central and the rest of Central Tampa are not distinct segments of the Seminole Heights community. Southeast Seminole Heights is a distinct segment. South Seminole Heights is a distinct segment. Hampton Terrace, Old Seminole Heights are distinct segments. You have to be in Seminole Heights to be a distinct segment of Seminole Heights. Why do you risk angering your Seminole Heights readership by continuing to insist otherwise. No matter how many votes and reviews Milk and Honey gets they cannot be the Best of Seminole Heights anything. If I were the owner of Milk and Honey I'd be ashamed to win a contest under false pretenses. To continue this contest with such a title makes me doubt the integrity of Seminole Heights Patch.

It is not a matter of Seminole Heights residents only being able to vote for businesses in SH. It is the fact that this contest is called "Best of Seminole Heights". Milk and Honey is not located in Seminole Heights. She is not "located on the outer edge". She is in the coverage area of the SH Patch, the same way St. Petersburg is in the coverage area for Tampa Tribune. If the Tribune held a contest for Best of Tampa and a St Petersburg business won how would that be accurate and fair?

Residents work hard in Seminole Heights fighting for the neighborhood. Battling prostitution/drugs. Battling city government indifference.Supporting businesses that had the guts to move onto Nebraska or Florida Avenue. We made clear to news media where Seminole Heights is. We worked hard on the branding of Seminole Heights. Then to have some business claim to be in Seminole Heights when it clearly not is a slap in the face to all of that hard work.

Shame on Seminole Heights Patch for not recognizing that. They claim to cover Seminole Heights but obviously do not know Seminole Heights.

I don't have anything against Milk and Honey and I am sure she provides good customer service as all the reviews indicate. If this contest were about the Best of Central Tampa I would not have any issues. But this contest is called Best of Seminole Heights. There is a simple solution. Change the name of the contest to "Best of Central Tampa" That is accurate. Anything else is wrong.

Great customer service at Sherry's Yesterdaze. They always help you find what you are looking for and what works best for your unique self. When I am wearing my vintage pieces from Sherry's, I literaly get stopped on the street and get asked 'where did you get that _____?' Love this unique shop in our unique neighborhood.

First off I love the Milk n Honey Tea Room and my family eats here all the time. Second I can't help but comment on the posts in this thread. The Seminole Heights Patch is very clear on it's coverage area, which includes the Milk n Honey Tea Room. I have been to both establishments and both provide a great place to shop. I am utterly astonished by the nerve of "David" as to acting as though he is able to speak for all of Seminole Heights. If the contest name is causing anguish in your life then I have a simple solution STOP opening this page until the contest is over. As for the other comments that are negative towards the Milk n Honey, it is a shame that a few select readers, who by the way have not said anything about Seminole Heights borders until the thought came out that a business outside official bounderies might win, would tarnish the positive reputation that, as mentioned in a different post, Seminole Heights has worked so hard to keep. Being a routine shopper of Seminole Heights, I know that the businesses here work hard for the positive reputation and would like to congratulate all those that were in the contest. Again try Milk n Honey and you will not be disappointed.

Ive tried multiple times to write this comment as a review & it keeps refreshing my page! Such a frustration when the competetion is so close!!
Sherry's Yesterdaze by far has an amazing collection of retro, vintage, and most importantly UNIQUE items that no one else has! Worried about showing up at that 70's party only to see 3 people rocking' the same look? No need to worry about that with the help of Sherry & her staff. They can help you create a unique look all your own! Yesterdaze has a vast selection of seasonal items as well. As we all know, trends have a way of coming back around full circle! :)

I have come here to say something, purposely not looking at the standings in this race, about one hour before it ends.

As far as I'm concerned, YesterDaze & Milk & Honey are both winners because we have had the chance to experience the outpouring of love & support from our patrons & friends. Kathy & I are two very lucky business owners!!

This has been fun and crazy-making.....and I, for one, am glad it's almost over. I guess I should thank Patch for bringing this madness ;-)

I look forward to checking out Milk & Honey myself. Thanks to all who took time from your busy lives to participate!!

You are a real CLASS ACT. I will look forward to not only patronizing your establishment but recommending it to others. And just for the record...it is true, I do not live in Seminole Heights.....but I also do not live in Carrollwood. But I have a feeling you do no mind where I live and your doors are open to everyone! Congratulations on all the fine reviews you received.

    Sherry,
I agree with jt you are a Classy Lady with a great place. If you look at the reviews from final 4 you will see that I was voting for you and left you both a review and comment. My friends and I have been to your store, but it has been some time ago since the last visit. You supported our Sertoma Club with our 17th Annual Charity Tea last year by providing hats for the vintage hat program ... thank you! This contest reminded me of how much I like your place and will come shop soon. It has also introduced me to many places in the Old Seminole Heights that I want to check out. I eat out a lot and will defiinitely check out TO Go (wow .. put on 20 pound just looking at their photos)! I live in T&C, but do not mind driving to support good small businesses no matter their location. I even drive to Brandon & Plant City at times for good country cooking!
However, when it came down to the final 2, my support went to Milk 'n Honey and chef/owner Kathy Glenn. Hopefully, the 2 of you can work together to promote each others businesses .... she can send her customers south and you can send yours north, so both will be winners!

I understand the need for The Patch to get better readership by expanding actual city designated boundaries to communities, and I'm interested in businesses mentioned on Patch, but the Milk N Honey Tea Room is farther away from my house in Seminole Heights than businesses in the heart of Old Hyde Park.... Would that mean that the Wine Exchange in Hyde Park could enter the Seminole Heights Patch contests? How about Downtown Tampa? -- that's even closer. No offense to the Milk n Honey Tea Room (I'm interested in visiting), but to me this looks like neighborhood brand bandwagoning. Hyde Park has a similar (although much stonger) stance on their identity, and I'm sure that The Hyde Park-South Tampa Patch wouldn't let nearby businesses outside of their "official" area (but closer in proximity) to be a part of those contests/etc. I have to vote for Sherry's, even if The Milk n Honey Tea Room is great -- it's simply too far from Seminole Heights. It's a shame it didn't come down to Reservations To Go vs Sherry's -- that would truly be a best of Seminole Heights contest.

People are geographically challenged as it is without Patch rewritings boundaries.
This contest should have been called mid-Central Tampa so as to acknowledge participants from the various communities and therefore be more inclusive.

You can correct this situatuon by doing this when the winner is announced.

A note from The Milk n' Honey Tea Room -
I want to thank everyone that supported the Patch Readers Choice tournament the last 6 weeks or so. What a wonderful way to introduce Small Businesses to the local community! A huge THANK YOU to all of the neighborhood Patch sites! You guys rock!

I am truly glad it is over now so we can all get back to business as usual. I am as anxious as everyone to find out who has prevailed in the Final Round. Kudos to Sherry and Yesterdaze. You guys are awesome! The support from your customers, friends, family and fellow business owners has been amazing.

I want to say THANK YOU to everyone that has supported me in this competition. It was a surprise, to say the least, when I found out in Round 3 that we were even IN a competition, so THANK YOU to the 128 votes I received in Round 2! I appreciate you moving us forward even if I didn't know anything about it! Since Round 4, my customers, friends, family and my business neighbors have been so diligent in voting, commenting and reviewing our business. I don't think that they realized that every vote for Milk n' Honey was a vote of confidence for 22 other local artisans whose work we carry in our gift shop. So from all of us, THANK YOU!

Congratulations to all 64 businesses that participated in this competition! I'm looking forward to visiting your stores, restaurants, and shops. I hope that some of you will consider visiting mine.

    Shop local. It matters.

I will definitely be going to M&H to check it out. It sounds great. I also love Sherrys Yesterdaze. Two totally different kinds of places.

As for location. The time and energy we who live in Seminole Heights have expended to brand ourselves and to encourage people to come here (unlike 25 years ago when we were considered a ghetto), makes us very passionate about clarifying our location. To say that everything in Central Tampa is in Seminole Heights is just wrong. The best of Seminole Heights is IN Seminole Heights. The Best of Central Tampa may or may not be. Please change the name of the area to reflect the area you really cover. It also bothers me that you post crime statistics from "Seminole Heights" while much of that crime is outside Seminole Heights. Some of the grids in SH have the lowest crime rates in the city. None of us are without any crime. Please relabel what you cover so it correctly reflects the true area.
