9/11 Remembrance Focuses on Banning Islamic Group from Hillsborough County Schools
The daylong remembrance will feature a protest rally, press conference, speakers and the viewing of the documentary, “Losing Our Sons."
A Sept. 11 remembrance ceremony will focus on banning the Council on American-Islamic Relations from Hillsborough County Schools.
Brandon resident Terry Kemple, president of the Community Issues Council, a Christian political group, has joined forces with the Education Coalition, the Tampa 912, the Tampa Tea Party and the Pinellas Patriots to host a daylong remembrance and protest rally.
Kemple became a vocal opponent of permitting members of CAIR to speak in Hillsborough County classrooms after learning that Hassan Shibly, executive director of the Tampa CAIR chapter, made a presentation to a world history class at Steinbrenner High School last year. Kemple and other opponents assert that CAIR is linked to terrorism and is attempting to radicalize high school students.
Do you think CAIR speakers should be banned from Hillsborough schools? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section.
CAIR denies any link to terrorism. Its website says it is an organization created to challenge "stereotypes of Islam and Muslims" and provide "an Islamic perspective on issues of importance to the American public.”
In April, Kemple and fellow CAIR opponents urged the school board to adopt more stringent policies on who it allows to speak to students.
However, the school board declined to change its policy on school speakers.
Tuesday's Sept. 11 remembrance will begin with a prayer vigil at Joe Chillura Park, across from the Hillsborough County Center, 601 E. Kennedy Blvd., Tampa.
The prayer vigil will be followed at 1 p.m. by a rally to oppose CAIR in the classroom and a press conference at the Hillsborough County School Board, 901 E. Kennedy Blvd.
At 3 p.m., members of the Education Coalition, a grassroots group opposing CAIR’s presence in schools, plans to present a formal policy to ban CAIR to the school board.
Then, at 5:45 p.m., the anti-CAIR groups will gather at River Church at 3738 River International Dr., Tampa, off Interstate 75 near the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard exit, to hear from speakers including FishHawk Ranch resident and 23-year Navy Intelligence officer Frank Wuco. Wuco was a member of U.S. Central Command’s “Red Team,” which researched Middle Eastern threats and doctrine. He currently is a radio host for WFLA 970 AM, specializing in Middle Eastern issues.
Other speakers include Frank Gaffney Jr., former National Security adviser to Ronald Reagan and Fox News commentator; Valrico resident and Hillsborough County School Board member Stacy White, the only school board member who opposed CAIR speakers in the classroom; Daris Long, father of Pvt. William Long who was murdered by Carlos Bledsoe, a Tennessee State University student who converted to Islam; Bledsoe's father, Melvin, who will discuss how his son was indoctrinated and then sent to Yemen to train with Al Qaida; Guy Rodgers, executive director of ACT! For America, a grassroots organization devoted to combating the threat of radical Islam; and Dr. Charles Jacobs, founder of Americans for Peace & Tolerance.
The day’s remembrance will conclude at 6 p.m. with a Sept. 11 remembrance ceremony and a screening of “Losing Our Sons,” featuring Bledsoe and Long’s stories.
“This documentary about two fathers who lost their sons to terrorism is extremely touching as they share their pain,” said Kemple. “ It’s also chilling when we think that these aren’t the only parents who will face this tragedy if we the people don’t recognize the danger and take action."

Sticks and stones... how about some substance. Terry is not using a topic which frankly does more to diminish his chance due to the ignorance of the community.... rather than enhance his chances.
But you can shill for CAIR and Carrol Kurdel all you want. You need to be afraid however... afraid of what the future holds for you... mr. Chamberlain.

CAIR should not speak at Hillsborough County schools until it can absolutely prove that it does not support Islamic fundamentalists. While I generally don't like limiting free speech and education of our students, I don't like how inappropriate the CAIR folks are by attempting to speak on this sad day of remembrance. Just because someone has the right, it doesn't make it right. Ultimately, the CAIR folks will disrupt the classroom and learning, and this is unacceptable. Parents can choose to have their children learn about CAIR in another way.

How is allowing an educational organization to speak to a classroom disruptive? I would have loved to hear from multiple educational organizations while in high school, a lot of students don't get the chance to ask about another religion and culture. This is a unique and eye-opening experience that will further enable discussion and tolerance among our youth.

CAIR is not an educational organization first. CAIR is a "Civil Rights" organization or rather a HAMAS entity masquerading as a Civil Rights Org. Several National Leader have said that they could not be loyal american, want to replace the constitution, That they would use education to achieve these goals, and many have been imprisoned and/or deported for terrorism or funding terrorism. Now if a Christian who blew up abortion clinics or openly supported other who blew up abortion clinics were speaking to our children under the guise of religion....how long would it be tolerated? CAIR support terrorism factually, CAIR supports replacement of our constitution with SHARIA factually, CAIR has dozens of member convicted of terrorism or supporting terrorism Factually.... Is this the kind of unique experience you want your child to learn to tolerate.
How about doing a little research before you open your mouth or make comment which may make you look foolish.

I don't understand why an Islamic religious group is allowed to speak in schools, but a Christian religious group is not. Either religious is allowed in schools or it isn't. They need to be consistent.

Moslems died on 9/11 too. CAIR is not an Islamic religious group. They try to dispel the myths and stereotypes about Islam that people like Terry Kemple perpetrate.
Before you start with more hate speech, I am not Moslem but I am sick and tired of people like Terry and his ilk. The hatred has to stop. We need to tell truths, not make up stuff because we hate. We need to start living by the tenets of our religions; love thy fellow man, teach a man to fish, etc. Shame on anyone who feels otherwise. Your god is not the same as mine.

Ruth, Muslim died on 911 that is true. Under islamic Sharia law and the quran... it is the duty of Muslim to kill infidels. If a Good Muslim dies in Jihad he goes to paradise....regardless if he flew the planes or was a good muslim who was working in the buildings and happend to die. If he was not a good muslim (meaning he was not sharia adherent) he was an apostate... ( a capital offense) and deserved to die. Meaning he was an ifidel. Its a win ...win and not tears are shed by a sharia adherent Muslim.
Jihad under all authritative islamic law is only defined as Islamic Warefare to establish the religion. The christian tenent are not Islamic tenents... despite your wishful thinking. Are there reformist muslims.... sure Dr. Jasser and Tawfik Hamid are two.. and guess what. CAIR and HASSAN SHIBLY attack them... they oppose sharia but CAIR and Shiby do not. See how much freedom you are afforded as a woman or female child under sharia and then get bact to me.

Why American Muslims have to prove that they are not linked to terrorism? I am astonished to read such comments and wonder how these people justify such hatred to their own conscious. I can name 1000s of acts of terrorism committed by people from other faiths (Colorado shooting, shooting at Sikh Temple, Shooting at Norway and countless others) We Muslims never associate such incidences with a faith or religion. This is ridiculous. I am fed up reading about linking terrorism with Islam and terms such as Islamic terrorism and Muslim extremists. If this is the case than fairness is to link other terrorism incidences committed by people of other religions with their faith. But I am sure every sane person will agree that this is unfair. All religions preach humanity and peace. It is about time to kick racism and stereotyping out of the society.

Muslims Do not have to prove they are not linked to terror. CAIR however is not linked to terror.. they have openly supported terrorism financially and otherwise and CAIR member have been sentence to prison for their roles.
CAIR is federally designated as the Palestine Committee aka HAMAS in the largest terror trial in US History and tries to have their name removed unsuccessfully and the judge who denied their request said there was AMPLE EVIDENCE ...key word EVIDENCE that CAIR , ISNA and NAIT where Muslim Brotherhood Front groups and CAIR was an arm of Hamas in America.

Could you imagine the international outcry if the Knights of Columbus stormed walls of the Egyptian Embassy, tore down their flag, burned it and raised the flag of the Catholic Church!....yet we sit and remain silent as the Muslim Brotherhood does just that...maybe we need to apologize more...yeah that will work!
